Yellow, white or rose gold: how each one is made

Each gold color comes from a different metal mixed into it. Once you know what's inside, it's much easier to tell which one belongs on you.

Yellow, white or rose gold: how each one is made

Start with what the metal actually is. Pure gold is soft and very yellow, so jewelers mix it with other metals to make it strong enough to wear. The color you see comes from that mix.

Yellow gold keeps the warmth of the gold itself, balanced with metals like silver and copper. It has a deep, buttery glow. Rose gold uses more copper, which turns it the soft pink of a blush. White gold is mixed with paler metals and is usually finished with a bright plating, which gives it that cool, mirror-like shine.

So which one is yours? Look at the inside of your wrist in daylight. If your veins look greenish and gold has always looked natural on you, yellow will feel like it belongs there. If your veins look bluish and silver has always been your easy choice, white gold gives you that same crisp light with more weight and presence. Rose sits between the two. It flatters almost everyone, and it's especially lovely on skin with pink or olive undertones.

Then open your closet. Camel, cream, olive and denim all love yellow gold. Black, navy, grey and stark white look sharp with white gold. Rose gold is at home with blush, burgundy, soft neutrals and a white T-shirt.

One more thing: you don't have to pick just one. A yellow ring next to a white one, or rose stacked with yellow, can look more like you than a perfectly matched set. Mixing colors works best when the shapes echo each other, like two slim bands or two round links.

Every piece is authenticated before it's sold, shipping is insured, and the price you see is the price at checkout. To see the colors side by side against your own skin, visit us in Los Angeles by appointment.
